For three years running, Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac has honored local students through its Driven Student program. This program recognizes students going above and beyond,  inside and outside the classroom. For the month of April, Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac chose to honor automotive students in Plymouth South High School's Technical Studies program.

While the typical Driven Student celebration involves a pizza party at the school, Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac provided these budding mechanics with something a bit more valuable: a training session on hybrid technology at the dealership.

Tourline Express minimises costs with the Optrak vehicle routing software

PRLog (Press Release) – Apr 28, 2011 – Optrak Distribution Software Ltd today announced that Tourline Express (TE) a company based in Spain, entirely owned by CTT- Correios de Portugal, SA (the Portuguese Post Office) has created a business control system in which Optrak is used in an innovative way.

Tourline is the fourth largest courier operator in Spain, and its nationwide operation is based on 274 local offices and 25 intermediate platforms for the consolidation and re-routing of parcels.  The parcels are accepted at a local office (origin), processed and forwarded to the local office serving the area where the final destination is located. Approximtely 93% of the local offices are franchises, with the remaining being owned by Tourline. Every local office manages the delivery of the parcels whose final destinations belong to their area of operation.  There are fixed clients (B2B) and occasional clients (B2C).

The challenge for Tourline is to calculate android application acce raising chickens ptable payment levels, per quarter, for the distribution work carried out in each of 274 local offices. Before the implementation of Optrak, Tourline would pay the local offices based only on the number of parcels delivered.  With Optrak, a new variable was introduced: the distance traveled in each local office for carrying out the work. The payment for one quarter is based on the numbers gathered for the previous quarter.

For each of the 274 local offices, 6 significant days of service from the previous quarter are analysed and the corresponding trips are generated and analysed.

To carry out this task, approximately 80,000 points have to be positioned correctly on the map, 274 Optrak projects have to be created (one for each local office) and trips for each of the 6 days have to be calculated making a total of 1644 solutions generated with several trips per solution). The key performance indicators are generated automatically as a result of the 1644 optimisations, and represent the basis of the negotiation process for the payment of the work in the current quarter.

To determine the coordinates of the delivery points - an operation that starts with addresses written by the Tourline customers without any rules and with no concern for consistency or adherence to a norm - the company developed a methodology supported by standard tools made available to users, at no cost, via the Internet.

This methodology keep 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 s track of all the delivery addresses, and incorporates that knowledge systematically, making the process of determining the coordinates easier and more automated, but also allowing for any changes the user might want to make. In this fashion, the problem of determining the coordinates of non-uniform addresses is solved correctly, with the help of widely available tools and at a very low cost for the user.

After getting the delivery coordinates, the Optrak sites and orders input files are generated for the 6 days to be considered for each local office. 274 projects are created and the data files with the basic data (e.g. sites, orders, fleet and drivers) are imported.  The corresponding trips are created by the Optrak optimiser and the results extracted from Optrak's database using ODBC.  Following this Tourline can prepare detailed reports containing data describing the trips and numbers consolidated for each local office.  This is the basis of the negotiation process and, consequently, of the payments to be made by Tourline to their franchisees.

The entire process following the calculation of the coordinates is automated.  Tourline uses Javascripts to do this and Optrak (http://optrak.com/features/optimising) is used as the optimisation engine (http://optrak.com/applications/strategicplanning).

The use of the processes described above allowed Tourline, according to Fernando Sequeira Salvador, Executive Director of the company, "to maintain the quality of the distribution network and the service levels, with no cost increases even in the current economic crisis. Had the new processes not been implemented, the increase in costs per year would be significant. While the 'mainland  factor' has been the driving force in Taiwan's up-turn, BMI cautions that a likely mainland slowdown in  2011 will cool the pace of growth, with local GDP growth dipping to 1.4%. Total trade in real terms is  expected to bounce back in 2010 with 31.9% growth before falling back to 4.1% growth in 2011.  Politically, the government remains stable but President Ma Ying-jeou had a tough time in the opinion  polls after making an unimpressive response to the Typhoon Morakot emergency and controversy over  relations with China. However, Taiwan's 2010 municipal election results in November left the political  landscape unchanged, although the vote swung slightly to the DPP.  Air freight is expected to have grown 13.7% in 2010 and is projected to recover by only 1.4% in 2011.  Maritime freight at the Port of Kaohsiung is expected to grow 7% in 2010 in throughput but this will  fallback to 1.9% in 2011. The smaller Port of Keelung is expected to do better with growth of 16.6% in  2010 after contracting 23% in 2009. This port's growth is expected to remain strong over the forecast  period with an average 5.1% growth of the medium term. Traditionally, rail freight growth has been  limited by the priority given to passenger rail demand, and by the relative unsuitability of this transport  mode to the short-haul requirements of the island-based economy.  However, the introduction of the bullet train service has freed up some freight rail capacity. However, BMI is concerned whether the carmaker will be able to sustain these levels in view of the hurdles to its overall production restructuring plan in the home market and the challenges in turning around US carmaker Chrysler. In either case, the effects of these uncertainties will be deeply felt in the Italian autos industry, given Fiat's position as the dominant player.

Such government support has long been a regular occurrence in the Italian autos industry.

However, pressure on companies to streamline their operations for improved capacity utilisations and pressure to reduce costs is compelling Fiat to rationalise its production network in Italy or seek for cost effective bases in Poland and Serbia. If Fiat chooses the latter, it could put severe downside risks to BMI's forecast of the country's autos production recovering to 945,200 units in 2015, compared with the 817,536 units produced in 2010 (according to Anfia estimates).

Domestic demand, on the other hand, is not looking particularly promising either. Estimates from the Anfia show that the fall in total vehicle demand continued in 2010, with total sales falling 5.76% y-o-y, to 2.17mn units - underperforming BMI's expectations of 2.23mn units by year-end. While economic conditions have certainly improved, we believe consumer dynamics to remain weak in 2011. As such, the overall new vehicles market is expected to fall more than 2% y-o-y, to 2.18mn units, in 2011. We see some recovery from 2012, but we do not envisage a complete recovery in market demand any time during the forecast period. By the end of 2015 we expect total sales of only 2.44mn units, nowhere near the 2.79mn units sold in 2007.

This clearly gives Fiat good reasons to seek growth in emerging markets. The carmaker is accordingly prioritising growth in Latin American markets while BMI identifies strong opportunities for long-term expansion for Fiat in Asia. The ultimate goal is to double the revenue of Fiat's core automotive division by 2014.

New Market Research Report: Greece Shipping Report Q2 2011

New market study, "Canada Autos Report Q2 2011", has been published

PRLog (Press Release) – Apr 02, 2011 – Total light vehicle sales in Canada for 2010 finished the year up 6.6% year-on-year (y-o-y), although this was largely owing to a strong performance by the light truck segment as passenger car sales ended the year down 5.2%. Heavy truck sales, however, rebounded with growth of 21.9%, reflecting an uptick in business confidence and an overall improvement in the economic scenario, which is generating freight demand. Heading into 2011, sales have already shown some first drive audi a6 signs of slowing. Following a 0.1% y-o-y decline in light vehicle sales in December 2010, there was a slight rebound in January with growth of 3.6% before a 4.2% contraction in February 2011. This was led by a 10.9% drop in sales of passenger cars, which was only partially offset by a 7% increase in light truck sales.

BMI has cautioned since late 2010 that some of the most generous cash incentives have been offered in the truck market, which could be inflating natural growth. Looking ahead, BMI believes that sales growth can remain positive, with growth to moderate to an annual average of 1.5% for the remainder of the fiveyear forecast period, a slight downwards revision from our earlier forecast. This follows BMI's view that private consumption will contribute less to economic growth in 2011 than in previous years.

The recovery in vehicle production growth, which we expected from 2010 onwards is also playing out. We still believe this is sustainable through to the end of 2015 automobile news as investment projects come into play and labour agreements ensure that the Detroit Three keep an agreed proportion of North American output in Canada. This is particularly true of General Motors Company (GM), which is also meeting the obligations of its loans from the federal and Ontario governments, while also adding shifts to meet increasing demand for new products.

Ford Motor in particular took advantage of the swing towards light trucks in 2010, claiming the lead of the light vehicle market, ahead of GM, which still registered a 2.1% decline in sales despite the overall market growth. It should be remembered, however, that GM is now operating with four fewer brands than in 2009. Chrysler enjoyed the best growth of the US brands with sales up 25.7%. This took it past Toyota Motor for third place and a market share of 13.1%, compared with 11.1% in 2009. The more passenger car-oriented Japanese brands have suffered from the shift in preference, with Toyota's sales falling 16.7% in 2010 and Honda Motor's sales up by less than 1%. This resulted in a massive drop in market share for the two, with Toyota falling from 14% to 10.1% and Honda's share shrinking to 7.9% from 9.6% in 2009.
